This may seem like an inflammatory title for this post, but with all the talk of GMO’s, our bee population being decimated, and health problems abounding, I don’t think this is such an eyebrow raising statement.
This weekend I was thinking about the book of Joseph and when he interrupted Pharaoh’s dream. Genesis 41:17 God warned the people that there would be seven years of abundant crops, followed by seven years of severe famine. They were to put up food from the seven good years to feed themselves for the seven bad years.
I always feel closer to God when I’m growing our own food and then preparing that food for my family with my own hands, not tossing things together from a box. While nothing can draw me closer to God but the saving grace of His son Jesus and the Holy Spirit, I do believe we lose a connection with Him when we move to far away from His creations.
God spends much of Leviticus in the Old Testament teaching the Israelites how to take care of the land, when to plant, when to harvest, and when to let the land rest. (You can read more of this in my post, Is the Bible Against GMO’s) If He didn’t care about how we take care of the earth and the food we put into our bodies, why would He have covered it in scripture?
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. NIV John 10:10
If the devil succeeds in destroying the balance of nature that God created, then He knows people will die. Which is what he wants. The devil also knows that the root of all evil is the love of money. 1Timothy 6:10
When I look at Monsanto and all of its underhanded practices and money spent on lobbying to our government, I see a love of money above the health and safety of our nation, from both parties.
When I see bees dying (at unnatural rate), which God created to pollinated the fruit and vegetables He created to nourish us, I see the work of the enemy.
But our God is bigger than the enemy, bigger than any chemical company, and most certainly bigger than any government. I don’t say any of this to scare anyone or cause a panic. I point this out so we can pray.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. NIV Ephesians 6:12
I believe God wants us to be prepared, to do the best we can in not supporting these companies, and to leave the rest in His hands. I don’t believe He wants us to be in a panic, or to make a religion out of living GMO free, or to be consumed with worry.
I hope no one takes my words to say that an act, or a certain diet, or lifestyle can bring us to or away from God’s love. That’s not my intention, but rather to point that God does care how we take care of our bodies and the earth He created.
What do you think? Have you changed any or your cooking or shopping habits since GMO’s came onto the market?[BoilerPlate plate=”Heirloom Gardening Guide” search=”Replace”]
