Growing my own food and having a renewable food source for my family is something I'm really passionate about. We've been saving and growing our own strain of heirloom green beans and a shelled bean for over a hundred years. It's a heritage and tradition I want to see every home take place in and learn about. My life is more enriched for it, not to mention my health and pocket book.
I grew up growing a garden, raising livestock, and canning, but I realize many of you didn't or want to learn more about how to do it. It might seem overwhelming. I've created a downloadable planting sheet to help you figure out which plants need to be started indoors or purchased as seedlings, which ones should be direct sown, when to plant them, how many days to harvest, with a few other columns to have you set up for success.
I've also included links to tutorials for planting, growing, and caring for most of the specific plants. It's all tailored to where you live by your first and last frost date, so you'll customize it for your specific area.
