It’s kind of late for New Year’s Resolutions, and I typically don’t make one anyways. I have resolutions all year long. But being a wordsmith, I’ve always like the idea of choosing a word for the year.
This weekend, I read a book by author Tricia Goyer,Balanced: Finding Center as a Work-at-Home Mom. All thought I’m not a full time work-at-home mom, I still work three days a week at the local pharmacy, I do work at home. And lately, I’ve not felt balanced at all. I took off a few months from podcasting (though new ones are coming!) and had hoped over the holidays to find my balance.
Have you ever read a book that you knew God meant for you to read? I can’t count them as He speaks to me through both fiction and non-fiction a lot. But when tears coursed down my cheeks, I knew He was giving me a gift of words.
As I made my way through the book, the one thing I kept circling back to was service. Jesus led a life service. We are to spend our lives serving Him.
Serving. My word.
I want this to be the year I focus more on serving others in Jesus’s name, than in my own. I want to serve my family, when no one is watching. I want to serve those I come in contact with like Jesus would, regardless of my likes or dislikes about them. I want to serve Him in all I do. When I stand at the pearly gates, I want my life story to be one of serving in His love.
And I want to serve you, my readers. I don’t mean that as a token, I truly want to write things you care about. The only way I can do that is if you tell me. Use the comments or hit reply and shoot me an email, but please, be vocal. Let me know where you need help, things you’d like to learn more about, areas you’d like to refine, or what you just plain like to read about.
As I set out to live a life of more service, I know the reason I felt off balance was because I wasn’t turning to God in everything. Some of the decisions I’d made had been on my own, without prayer. When we turn away from our Creator, we will live a life unbalanced. Click to Tweet
If you’ve felt unbalanced lately, I urge you to seek Him. And I pray you’ll join me in a life of service.
For help in clearing out the clutter both spiritually and in the closest and cupboards, I go deeper into my process in this podcast episode Clearing Out the Clutter.
