Are You Sharing Jesus?

Share It!

Have you ever noticed that just one sentence can be more powerful than a whole paragraph?

Last Thursday night, I had the privilege of listening to author and speaker, Kim Meeder. Kim and her husband, Troy, own and operate Crystal Peaks Youth ranch. They rescue abused horses and pair them with disadvantaged youth at no charge.

I gleaned many things from Kim’s talk. If you ever have the chance to hear her speak, don’t walk, run to the event. She is on fire for Jesus and I’ve rarely ever felt the Holy Spirit so strongly as I did Thursday night.

As Kim spoke, the Holy Spirit’s still quiet voice whispered through my mind. Kim traveled all the way from Oregon to speak and her only fee was whatever we chose to give her.

Jesus asked me, “Are you trying to sell me or share me?”

I have a book releasing this October and my mind has been filled with ways to market it.

This one sentence shook me to my core. Tears burned my eyes. My focus had turned from sharing what Jesus has done in my life, to how many copies I could sell.

We serve a God who loves us. A God who will point out where we’re going wrong in hopes we’ll rush back into His arms.

I will never again approach a project without asking myself are you sharing Jesus or trying to sell Him?

This doesn’t mean that I think every speaker or author isn’t following God’s call if they don’t operate the way Kim does. But it will make me always question my motive.

What speaker has moved you to re-evaluate your life? Have you ever lost your focus?

  1. Great post. I often feel this way, which is why I do not focus on blog stats or followers, etc. God continues to show me how wrapped up my personality would get in that, and He wants me to focus on sharing what I’ve learned and my story with others. Thanks for the reminder!

    • Tammy, I’m breaking myself of checking the stats or worrying so much about those things. I’ll keep on eye on them, but not will no longer focus on them. You are wise to not fall into this trap!

  2. The WHY is so important. Sometimes in the race we can easily get caught up in the WHAT and we forget the focus should always be on the WHY. I keep a sign above my desk that says “What’s my WHY?” It reminds me daily with every project and action to keep what matters most, most important. That doesn’t mean I get it right all the time but at least I keep it the reminder to bring me back if I stray.

    • Daniel, it is the WHY. Keeping a reminder front and center is important. I’m thinking of taping one to the bathroom mirror to remind me while I’m getting ready for the day. Thankfully, God is always there to bring us back when we do stray. :)

      • Indeed. God rocks. I keep that sign about WHY above my desk because I’m not smart enough to do it on my own and every day I have to remind myself to stay focused. : )
