Are Angels Real?

Have you ever wondered if angels are real?

We read about them in the Bible and see pictures of beautiful white-winged creatures.

My first encounter with an angel may have only been in a dream, but it was so powerful, that it chased away any doubt for me that angels and my God are real.

I just finished reading Angels are for Real by Judith MacNutt. It’s a mixture of true stories and biblical answers and studies of angles. I came a way with a much deeper understanding of angels and how they work for God.

But a few things struck me. One, some people encounter angels without being close to God. He uses those encounters to bring people to Him. I’m not sure why I thought only truly devout people saw angles and that’s why I hadn’t.

Second, after reading these stories, I want to see more of the super natural. I want to stand in the presence of a burning on fire with God’s presence angelic being. I asked God to open my spiritual eyes.

And the next day He did. But not the way I expected. (God’s funny like that!)

I went to visit with a close friend who recently lost a dear loved one. While we were talking, she told me the week before the person died, she felt a presence at her home. A cold touch upon her cheek. She even got up to see if the window had been left open.

That same night, the person who died, felt a warm presence. They were relieved of pain for the first time in years and slept the whole night through.

At the same time, they both felt a sense of peace and comfort, with unexplainable sensations from something supernatural. I believe these were angels sent by God.

My friend had no idea I’d just read this book or asked God to show me His angles presence. I wanted to see one with my own eyes, but in His wisdom, He reached three people in answer to my prayer.

Have you ever experienced the presence of angels?

I received my copy of Angels are Real from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.

  1. Yes, I have experienced the presence of those “ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14). I was broken down on the highway and with no help of rescue, suddenly a man stood behind me and told me exactly what I needed to do to fix my car. It worked! Then, without a word, he was gone.

This happened on my way to California as I was heading to my first ministry assignment as an associate pastor. I thought, being broken down, that perhaps God didn’t want me to actually go but then that “stranger” appeared and gave me what I needed to continue. Was it an angel? Was it simply a stranger who stopped to help? I am convinced that it was an angel.

  2. I did when we were in high school. I was driving my car to a friend’s house, Homecoming night our senior year. It was raining (of course), visibility was really bad and my beater car had some ugly alignment issues. From my road to my friend’s road on the other side of the Skagit, this car had followed me. So.. it turns out it was a cop. When I got to part of the drive that was scaring the bejeezers out of me, I got pulled over. This cop had bright blue eyes and he was kind but, like all cops, was authoritative. We’ll just say he got my parents involved. You know, silly thing about not owning a driver’s license and all. I was pretty sure he was just a cop at that time. It wasn’t until the day after I got my driver’s license, I was driving said beater car to school when the crap car stalled on me in the middle of Hwy 20. Out of nowhere came that same cop who put on his lights, got out of the car, and pushed me on to the curb. He said a few words to me and then off he went. I never saw him again.

    • Nicola, I’m with you, totally an angel. Many people would say it was just coincedence, but as a Christian, I no longer believe in coincedence. God knows every minute of our lives and things don’t happen by chance. They happen by His hand. I love that He sent an angel to you in cop form.
Know something else, I knew the angel I saw by his eyes. I think it’s interesting you picked up on the eyes as well. Amen!

  3. My daughter was diagnosed with a liver disease in November 2008. She got really sick March of 2009. I went to put her down one day and blood pooled out of her mouth. I freaked. I picked her up and started screaming for my friend downstairs to call 911. Then my daughter started to throw up blood in huge amounts. I started praying out loud. The EMT’s came and called the Medics. The Medics came and called the Medivac helicopter. We are 45 minutes from Seattle Children’s. Many miracles happened that day. My Father in law showed up. He said the Lord told him to come to our house NOW. He did, without calling me. The Medic’s kept telling me that I would not be on the helicopter with my daughter. She was only 5 1/2 months old and very scared of others due to hospital visits/lab draws. I prayed knowing God is the final authority of everything. The helicopter came and the Medivac nurse came and told the others to (move!!) He immediately took both of us on the helicopter. A nurse the next day told me that NEVER happens with medical situations like my daughter’s. Then, in the ER at Children’s, my daughter would not let anyone near her without crying and turning away but me. A guy walked in the room and passed everyone without issue. He came to the other side of the bed and reached for my daughter’s hand. She took his hand without fear. A nurse tried to talk to him. He did not respond. She moved away. I motioned to him and he looked up. I said,” Hi, what is your name?” He said,”Michael”. I told him the nurse was trying to get his attention. He said,”Oh.” I asked if he was hard of hearing or deaf. He said he was hard of hearing and both his hearing aid batteries were dead. Another nurse tried to talk to him. I told her what he said and she was like,”Oh, o.k.” In the midst of the emergency, he was not questioned, not asked to move and not acknowledged after the 2 nurses. Sarah was calm for the nurses/doctors. I have asked my friend about the guy and she remembers him clearly. I have been in and out of Children’s ER and in house for stays with my daughter. I have never seen this guy again. I have seen nurses/phlebotomists/doctors over and over again, but not this man. I am thoroughly convinced God was answering my prayers and that the man on the helicopter and the man in the ER were angels! (The medivac nurse from the helicopter stayed to check on us in the ER and got me a chair/asked if I needed juice and put his arm around my shoulders for some time.) God is good and is always watching over us!!

    • Patty, your story and faith are amazing! How scary to grow through that, especially when your daughter was so tiny. I’m sure you were surrounded by angels as well. I wonder if the angels have fun picking out what form or character they’re going to take when they help us out. I was at Children’s hospital once in Seattle myself and I’m sure it was an angel. No other way he could have gotten past the personel without divine help. Thanks so much for sharing and giving God the glory!

  4. I was a young married mother and decided to walk from our apartment by Seattle Pacific University to Northgate Mall where hubby had a part time job servicing dry cleaning machines. I pushed my baby in a stroller up and down curbs for 6 miles. When I got to the last straight stretch to the mall, it was getting dark and there was no more sidewalk because the northbound freeway (I-5) was being built. I became afraid but knew I couldn’t turn around so I stepped onto the dirt and walked faster. Suddenly a big, beautiful Collie dog appeared and stayed beside me till I got to the pavement going into the mall parking area. I told hubby about the dog and we looked outside to find it and it was gone. I believe it was an angel in the form of a beautiful dog….God’s provision for a young woman who chose to do a foolish thing.

    • Thanks for sharing, Bertha. I believe your right, about the provision, not the foolish. :) I think God sends angels in any form that fits our situation. I’m so thankful He looks out for us no matter what we do. I’m glad you and your baby were safe!

  5. I’m enjoying these posts from my inbox. Just wanted to let you know that’s why I’m not commenting as much. :) Btw- you should check out Chicken Soup for the Soul. They have an upcoming book call for submissions on angel encounters. You should write one and submit!

    • Thanks for the heads up on the Chicken Soup for the Soul. I’m going to check it out. And thanks for popping over to the blog from the inbox. :) I’m laughing at your muddy mama posts, I just never think to get the camera out in the midst of the mess. I’ll remember next time so I can play too.
