Decorating With Yarn-Wrap Your Initial

Yarn Letter

I’ve got tons of yarn leftover from multiple crocheting projects. Some aren’t enough for a full project, but I can’t stand to get rid of it. I just know I’ll find a use. :)

So while at the craft store I came across cardboard letters and grabbed the first letter in my last name, a N. I found this springy shade of green moss and had originally thought I’d crochet some new dish rags and pot holders. While rolling another skane of yarn into a ball, I thought how pretty some different balls of yarn would look sitting in a bowl.

Then I thought about wrapping the letter I’d picked up in the yarn. Here’s my finished product.

I think this would be adorable with the first letter of a girl’s name with a pretty flower on one side. Or a B for baby embellished with buttons. The possibilities are endless.

Just use a little hot glue to secure the yarn where you start wrapping and when you end. I did have to use a dab of hot glue on the corners and a little in the middle just to help the yarn stay put.

What are your uses for yarn other than crocheting? Any ideas?

  1. Love your letter! I did a moss-covered initial for my daughter’s room a while back. My most recent favorite use for leftover yarn stash (I’m a knitter who wishes she could remember how to crochet instead of having to look it up on YouTube every single time…) is gift wrap. I use scraps of yarn in place of ribbon. Came in handy at Christmas time!

    • Ohh, I love the idea of moss, Amanda. I’m redoing my son’s room this spring with an outdoor theme. Never thought of using moss. Thanks!

I like the tip of using yarn as ribbon. Very pracitical and soo cute.

I wish I could knit. I’ve tried and I never get the tension correct. So I stick to crocheting.
